Suspicious fire guts Abbotsford townhouses

ABBOTSFORD -- Families, friends and neighbours are in shock after a large fire gutted four townhouse units and damaged a fifth in a suspicious blaze Wednesday morning.
Abbotsford police and arson investigators were canvassing witnesses and examining the scene in the 32300 block of Mouat Drive in Abbotsford after firefighters responded to several 911 calls that came in around 1:45 a.m.
Police fire units arrived to find the condos fully engulfed, and discovered a second deliberately set fire also burning in a storage unit at a nearby complex on Tretheway Street.
Const. Ian MacDonald with the APD said the fire was deliberately set, but he was unsure at this time what type of accelerant was used.
He said two of the units were unoccupied at the time, and the most important thing was that no one was injured in the blaze. "The investigation into the fire is the department's top priority," he said.
