Woman killed in high-speed collision

ABBOTSFORD -- Charges are pending against the man driving a vehicle in which a female passenger was killed after he failed to stop at a rural Abbotsford intersection and was T-boned by a Ford F-350, said police on scene.

The woman was airlifted to a Lower Mainland hospital but died shortly after due to massive trauma from the collision.

Both the driver of the car and the Ford pickup walked away from the impact with minor injuries.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Dixon and Campbell roads, just east of Abbotsford about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, said police.

Both vehicles suffered significant damage, with the force of the collision tossing the car the woman was in more than 40 metres into an adjacent field.

The truck rolled several times and came to rest upside-down in a three-metre deep ditch several metres from the intersection.

Police, ambulance and fire rescue are continuing to investigate, and both roads remain closed as crash reconstruction experts examine the scene.
